From One Alum to Another

Many SPU Alumni don’t realize they are qualified to rent at Camp Casey, by simply graduating from Seattle Pacific University.

While working at Seattle Pacific University’s Camp Casey, Robyn Myers (’95) has discovered opportunities for alumni that are hardly known. What is her advice for fellow alumni?   Take advantage of the gem of Camp Casey. “Many SPU Alumni don’t realize they are qualified to rent at Camp Casey, by simply graduating from Seattle Pacific University.” says Robyn. Alumni also receive discounts on nightly rates at both Camp Casey and the Fort Casey Inn. She shares that some alumni utilize Camp Casey for their annual family reunions, personal family events, or even church small groups. Arts and Crafts seem to be a recurring theme as well for visits to Casey. The Camp sees scrapbooking and quilting retreats often. Recently, the Sjoholm friends and family gathered to do a community service project as well as stayed up for epic board game nights.   “The campground seems to be a popular location, as well as the aptly named Alumni House, that can sleep up to 21 people,” explains Robyn.  “We have one or two larger alumni sponsored family events each year that include up to 75 people and they even take meals in the Mess Hall.” Children especially seem to bond with the open spaces, beaches, nearby Fort Casey, outdoor pool in the summer and campfires.  The holidays are another not often booked time at Camp Casey and would seem a natural booking for families.   Many of the homes available to rent can hold between 8 to 51 people with lodging, meeting space and a kitchen under one roof.

Her office often hears of many alums of SPU or rather SPC (Seattle Pacific College)! The Martinell family visited Camp Casey this past fall and both Don and Sue had attended “Casey Quarter” independently in 1978.   After they left their fall experience at Camp Casey, however, they weren’t individuals, but most assuredly a couple!   So not only do families reunite at Camp Casey, but some relationships actually begin.
